For buildings exceeding 35 floors, a recommended elevator configuration typically includes different elevator groups for low-, medium-, and high-rise levels. In very tall buildings, configurations using distribution floors and transfer levels as well as shafts “stacked” one above the other are recommended. The groups serving the upper zones are stacked above those serving the lower zones and are accessed by taking express elevators from the ground floor to transfer levels, where they are distributed to the appropriate local elevator.
TWIN in high-rise projects: planning for elevator groups

For incoming and outgoing traffic, the TWIN system divides the shaft into virtual zones in the area where both elevator cabins can move independently of one another. Passengers with their destination in the upper zone of the shaft enter the upper elevator cabin via the upper lobby. The same principle applies to the lower elevator cabin and the lower zone of the shaft. For all other traffic (interfloor traffic), the virtual zones are “opened” and both TWIN elevator cabins serve the complete shaft.
When used to serve local groups in this way, TWIN raises the benchmark for building efficiency and traffic performance. In an optimized configuration, double-deck shuttles can feed two sky lobbies simultaneously, while independent TWIN cabins dynamically distribute passengers to their destinations. This strategy minimizes shaft requirements and avoids issues such as stack effects, building sway, crowded lobbies, and phantom stops.
